Generating mock data with Showman

Sonu Fakiha Feedback

During customer demos, the Vymo app must have sufficient data, and meaningful data, for showing the several available features to customers. You can use Showman, which is a mock data generator, for populating the demo clients with relevant data, so that you don't have to manually create records for leads, partners, activities, and the other features.

When you use Showman, you get a demo client that contains customer-relevant mock data. For example, if your demo is for the banca channel to a customer located in the UTC+5:30 time zone, and you are working from Nassau, you can use Showman to generate the following kind of mock data:

  • Leads and partners located in and around Nassau
  • Activities that are scheduled for a few days before and after the demo date, reckoned from the customer's time zone
  • Coach and goals data

The following table shows what kind of data can be pushed with Showman to demo clients.

Best time to run Showman

Do this task at least 24 hours before a demo.

Getting ready for using Showman

Do these steps once. Thereafter, you can jump to Using Showman.

  1. Set up VPN access, because you can access Showman only through the Vymo VPN.
    1. Go to Pritunl and sign in with your Vymo Google credentials.
    2. On the pritunl user profile page, click Download client. You're taken to a new tab. Do not close the previous tab (because you need a few more details from that page).
    3. Download the installer and run it.
    4. Open Pritunl and click Import Profile URI.
    5. Return to the pritunl user profile page, copy your profile URI link, paste it in the Import Profile URI field, and click Import.
  2. Set up two-factor authentication (2FA) because the VPN access needs it.
    1. Install Authy.
    2. Open Authy and click Add Account to add the Vymo account.
      • If you're installing Authy on your phone, scan the QR code.
      • If you don't have access to a scanner or are installing Authy on your desktop, return to the pritunl user profile page, click Enter key manually, copy the two-step authentication key, and paste it in Authy.
    3. Add a name, for example, Vymo VPN, to the account.
  3. Get the login credentials for Showman. The Product Marketing team handles this task.

Using Showman

Showman is available on only the staging server (and not production).

  1. Open Pritunl. Near the top right, click the hamburger icon and click Connect.
  2. Open Authy and click the Vymo account. You're shown an OTP. Memorize it.
  3. Return to Pritunl and enter the OTP from Authy. When the Connecting for value changes to a time value, you know you're connected to the Vymo VPN.
  4. Go to https://start.getvymo.com/showman. If you're prompted to log in, use the Vymo Google credentials. Also, make sure you're not in private browsing or incognito mode.
  5. Use the Showman fields reference page to enter the details, and click Push Demo.

Your demo client is populated with the following mock data:

  • Leads for each module
  • If supported for that demo client, business metrics
  • User activities
  • Partner activities
  • If selected when pushing data, coach and goals

Verifying the mock data

To see the new records, log in to the demo client with the same credentials that you used for pushing data through Showman. (Using su credentials won't work.)
